Guidelines on the requirements of BS EN 60439-1
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS OF THE STANDARD
The Standard covers all risks arising from the use
of low-voltage switchgear and
controlgear assemblies, including not just electrical
ones but also mechanical, and all other risks.
The Standard details performance requirements for the
design & construction, electrical characteristics
and test specifications so that the essential safety requirements of the LV Directive are satisfied. These are summarised below:
- Temperature-rise limits
- Short-circuit withstand strength
of main circuits
- Short-circuit withstand strength
of protective circuits
- Mechanical operation tests
- Wiring, electrical operation
|
- Dielectric properties
- Effectiveness of the protective
circuit
- Clearance and creepage distances
- IP degree of protection
- Protective measures
